The  I Gen Collagen Maxtrix Implant is a biodegradable collagen implant, designed and applied as an adjunct means for glaucoma surgery, particularly in patients who have failed first and second line treatments and have been identified as being at high risk of recurrence. Studies up to date have shown I Gen to be effective in term of both IOP control and glaucoma surgery improvement.

Proven effective and safe in animal studies, iGen is currently under clinical developmentin china and europe for glaucoma and pterygium surgical procedures. Studies to date have shown iGen to be effective in terms of both OP control and glaucoma surgery improvement. Gen is effective in accelerating wound healing and contraction, as well a reducing scar formation. For glaucoma surgery, iGen prevents the occurrence of low IOP by playing the role of buffer for aqueous humor immediately after its implantation. It also prevents scar formation inside the wound by guiding fibroblasts to grow randomly throughout the matrix pores

The iGen implant is cylindrical and 95%porous,with pore size ranging from 20 to 200 um (average pore size is 140+20 um), a density of 148+ 25 / cm3)。iGen consists of> 90%lyophilized porcine collagen and

Bodegradation :The iGen implant biodegrades completely wihin 30 to 90 days. Before Degradation. The porous structure of the iGen implant acts as a reservoir, a buffering system for aqueous humor.

Early Stage:The iGen implant occupies the subconjunctival space on top of the sclera flap, adding pressure to the scleral tunnel and encouring the formation of bleb.

Partial Degradation Stage:As the implant degrades, adhesve contact is absent at the scleral tunnel. This is due to the implant's floating in the ubconjunctval space with the change of increased intraocular pressure (IOP) and body posture. In the subconjunctive space, the degrading iGen implant encourages tissue regeneration instead of scarring.

Complete Degradation Stage:With the iGen implant completely degraded a new physiological balance is created. At the scleral tunnel, a mature structure is formed without adhesion. At the subconjunctival space, a mature bleb with normal conjunctival and subconjunctival structure is formed.

i-Gen for glaucoma surgery

For glaucoma applications, ophthalmologists operate using the standard procedure for trabeculectomy, only need one more added step simply inserting iGen implant on the top of the sceral flap under the conjunctiva before sutuning. The trabeculectomy procedure using the iGen implant can ensure a more than 95%success rate without the complication of anti- fibrotic or anti-proliferative agents.

i-Gen advantages

Conventional management of filtration surgery (trabeculectomy) is throught the use of intra or postoperative anti-proliferative therapy, such as 5- fluorouracil or mitomycin-C. Although this reduces the likelihood of an aggressive postoperative fibroblast mediated scarring, the therapy is radiometric, and may cause widespread cell death, the induction of acellularity and apoptosis, as well as altered bled morphology. In addition such treatment increases the risk of complication such as hypotony maculopathy, comeal toxicity, wound leakage, infection and endophthalmitis

Value Proposition of iGen in glaucoma applications

Initially designed to improve trabeculectomy surgical outcomes for glaucoma patients-lower scaring, faster recovery time, more effective wound healing.

used in glaucoma surgery as a simple replacement for current implants and anti-fibrotic agents, particularly beneficial to be adopted in developing countries.

Additional ophthalmic applications

Pterygium surgery (reduces recurrence)

Inadequate conjunctiva, for sever conjunctival scar formation following surgery

Nasolacrimal duct surgery (prevents scar formation)

Orbital surgery

Eye plastic

What do you understand ?

The  i-Gen Collagen Matrix implant is a biodegradable collagen implant ,designed and applied as an adjunct mean for glaucoma surgery

What u mean by glaucoma surgery ?

Glaucoma is a group of diseases affecting the optic nerve that results in vision loss and is frequently characterized by raised intraocular pressure (IOP). There are many glaucoma surgeries, and variations or combinations of those surgeries, that facilitate the escape of excess aqueous humor from the eye to lower intraocular pressure, and a few that lower IOP by decreasing the production of aqueous.

Ophthalmologist ?

An ophthalmologist is a specialist in medical and surgical eye problems. Since ophthalmologists perform operations on eyes, they are both surgical and medical specialists.
